Deaf Learners embrace the FIlipino Sign Language

In the recent follow-on evaluation conducted by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Resources for the Blind, Inc. (RBI), we found that Deaf learners are increasingly using Filipino Sign Language (FSL) in their responses! This marks a positive and exciting shift towards embracing FSL over other sign language references. This fantastic progress highlights the growing recognition and use of our very own FSL, fostering better communication and cultural connection within the Deaf community. Let’s continue supporting the advocacy for inclusive education and language diversity! 🤟 The Gabay Project implemented by RBI is made possible by the generous support of the American people through the USAID.

Computer Eyes Training in Cebu

Ongoing technical training for persons with visual impairment is in full swing at the Digital Transformation Center (DTC) in DICT (Department of Information and Communications Technology) Regional Office 7, Cebu City. Through a collaborative effort between Resources for the Blind (RBI) and the Overbrook-Nippon Network on Educational Technology (ON-NET), this initiative is part of the DICT’s SPARK program, which is the “Strengthening the Philippine Workforce through Adaptive and Responsive Digital Knowledge”. The focus is on equipping participants with vital digital skills using the NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access). It’s amazing to witness how tools like NVDA are opening up new pathways for independence and inclusion, offering access to essential digital resources. This training is more than just education; it’s about building an inclusive future where everyone has the chance to thrive. This activity runs from September 15-27, 2024. We’re excited to see how our 23 participants from the Visayas Region will continue breaking barriers and unlocking new opportunities!
